CIS-CAT v4 GUI Session ID Pop Up Error

CIS-CAT v4 GUI Session ID Pop Up Error

Product Name

CIS-CAT Pro Assessor v4

Product Version

v4.1+

Date

12/1/2020

Problem

When you use the V4.1+ CIS-CAT GUI there are either pop-up or progress page errors;

Solution

Local Assessment;

  • If the hostname starts with a non-letter you will see an error in the Assessment progress page “Error(s) occurred validating the XML Configuration File”

  • The workarounds are to use a command line CIS-CAT Assessment. Or, rename the system so the hostname starts with a letter

Remote Assessment;

  • If the hostname starts with a non-letter you will see a pop-up error as shown below

  • In the configuration file, the session id= must start with a letter, no other symbol is valid.

  • In the sample error below, the configuration file contains <session id="1test"> Editing that file and changing it to <session id="test1"> will allow the configuration file to load.

Note that this is a known bug and will be addressed in an upcoming release of CIS-CAT v4
