Quick Start Guide: Cisco Assessment - Local

This guide will walk through performing a local Cisco assessment using the GUI for CIS-CAT Pro Assessor. See this section of the documentation for more detail on Cisco assessments

Requirements

  • For a local scan, CIS-CAT Pro Assessor must assess an exported configuration file; the output of the show tech-support command. Redirect the output of the show tech-support command to a file (for example, show tech-support > *filename* ) in the local writable storage file system.

  • This example shows how to redirect the technical support information to a file:

    switch# show tech-support > bootflash:TechSupport.txt
  • Once the exported configuration file is available to CIS-CAT Pro Assessor, the assessment can be performed against it.

Implementation Steps

  1. Launch CIS-CAT Pro Assessor GUI as an administrator

  2. Select ‘Advanced’ → ‘Add remote or local target system’

  3. Fill out the Target System Name

    1. Cannot be left blank, have spaces, or start with number/symbol

  4. Set Target System Type to Cisco

  5. Skip to the second to last option ‘Cisco Configuration File’ and select Browse

  6. Set the path to the show tech-support file

  7. Next, select the appropriate Cisco Benchmark and Profile and then hit ‘Add’

  8. Once the Benchmark is added, Select ‘Save’ on the bottom right

  9. Select ‘Next’ on the bottom right

  10. Configure the Report Output options as you desire

  11. When the scan is ready to be run, select ‘Next’ → ‘Start Assessment’

  12. The assessment is now running

Troubleshooting Steps

Make sure the file is the output from show tech-support and not another show command.

If there is an issue, please review the documentation and view this troubleshooting article.
