How do I create a blank CIS-Hosted CSAT spreadsheet with no assessment data in it?

Problem

I would like to view all of the Controls, or 1 specific Implementation Group, of the v8 CIS-Hosted CSATControls

Please note: if you are looking for a spreadsheet of the CIS Controls themselves which is not modifiable and is not importable into CSAT), this is available in CIS WorkBench.  The CIS Controls v8 spreadsheet is on the CIS WorkBench | CIS Controls v8 Spreadsheet

Solution

For instructions on how to export an excel file from CIS-Hosted, make edits to it, and reimport the file back into CSAT, see this support article Here

  1. Login to CIS-Hosted CSAT

  2. You can create a new blank assessment for the desired CIS Controls version (v7.1 or v8) even if you don’t want to modify your existing assessment by “End Current Assessment” and “Start New Blank” Assessment).

    1. Note: step 6 below may change the applicability of Safeguards in your assessment.

  3. Click “All Controls” on the left menu in the “Current Assessment” sub-menu

  4. Click the blue “Filter” button to bring up the filter menu

  5. In the Implementation Group filter drop-down menu, select the Implementation Groups that you want I the export.  (If you want just IG1, just select “Group 1”.  If you want IG1 and IG2, select “Group 1” and “Group 2”.  If you want all 3 IGs, select “Group 1”, “Group 2”, and “Group 3”).

  6. Check to see if any of these Safeguards are in the blue (Not Assessed) state.

    1. You can see this in the “#” column – there will be a colored circle in each row by the Safeguard number.  Any Safeguards that have a blue circle there will not export; if you have any blue Safeguards and you want to continue these steps, one way to get them out of the blue state is to:

      1. Select the checkbox next to each blue Safeguard. (Note: if you created a new blank assessment in step 2, you can click the top left check box in the heading row to Select All Safeguards)

      2. Select “Mark as Applicable” from the Bulk Action option dropdown and click the “Save” button next to the dropdown. Please note: If any of the selected Safeguards were not applicable, this will make them applicable.

  7. Click the “Download Report” button

  8. Open the downloaded spreadsheet.  If there is any data in columns E through L that you wish to remove, delete it and save your spreadsheet.

Optionally, if you created a new blank assessment in step 2 and wish to return to your previous assessment, you can delete the blank assessment here.

Be careful not to delete any assessments that have data that you care about.
