Problem

GCP no longer supports Deployment Manager driven deployments. All CIS HI’s products in GCP will align with the Terraform deployment backend.

Solution

What do you need to know?

Terraform is an infrastructure-as-code software tool which helps users define and provide infrastructure using a declarative configuration language. Since the infrastructure is declared as code, the deployment code can be shared, reviewed, and controlled just like any other softare codebase. This support will enable partners to use the same, industry standard tools and syntax to manage resources across cloud providers.

With this change, we will be also removing support for Deployment Manager driven deployments. The schedule of these changes have been documented below:

Date

What will happen?

March 20, 2024

GCP will disable the creation of new products using Deployment Manager.

From April 20 to May 30 2024

For products using the configuration wizard, GCP will automatically migrate your existing products to use Terraform-based deployments.

GCP will notify you about the migration status on the Deployment Packages section of the Producer Portal. You may perform self-driven migrations earlier, if needed, at any point in time.

After May 30, 2024

Existing products that use the guided configuration flow cannot be updated using Deployment Manager. All deployments will only use Terraform.

This will affect the GCP end user experience. Google supplied this documentation regarding how to deploy through GCP based on Terraform vs Deployment Manager: https://cloud.google.com/marketplace/docs/partners/vm/customer-view-deployment-packages
