What is the recommended backup strategy to make full image backups to ensure that the billingProducts field is properly preserved? |
Solution
Attached are photos of CIS RHEL 8 and AL2 offers.
As seen below, the RHEL 8 offer has the billing products field, which is not null so it would likely have same issue as non-cis image retaining that field without a full instance backup. (base RHEL instance shows billing products code, but null for marketplaceProductCodes)
The AL2 offer does not have billingProducts set, but does have marketplaceProductCodes.
So from this research, we would say the preferred method would be to utilize full AMI backup to retain the marketPlaceProductCodes field for entitlement to the offer. Operating systems that utilize billingProducts field would also do so on a CIS image - for example, RedHat. In this case, if guidance received has been to utilize full AMI backup to retain billingProducts field on these instances/OS'es, it would be safe to say that is also the case on CIS images of the same Operating system.
