Problem

After applying a CIS Windows Build Kit I am no longer able to connect to shared printers on my network.

Solution

There are two WorkBench discussions on this issue:

Devices: Prevent users from installing printer drivers
Print Sharing Broke After Applying Windows_Server 2019 v1.3.0 L1 MS Settings to our Print Server

The discussions highlight the following recommendations as being a possible culprit:

  • Allow Print Spooler to accept client connections (set to Disabled) in Section 18.6.

  • Devices: Prevent users from installing printer drivers when connecting to shared printers in Section 2.3.4

If the issue is still present after removing the above two recommendations, follow the steps in this article to continue troubleshooting which recommendation may be causing the issue. Within the Benchmark, search for “printer” and read through any related recommendations.

In order to view the WorkBench discussions you will first need to join the CIS Microsoft Windows Benchmarks Community
