CIS can only support the Kernel version that the image ships with. The new CIS Hardened Image versions published each month will include the latest package & security updates at time of creation / publication, which includes kernel updates and new releases that are made available from the OS vendor. This will typically be the latest stable Kernel version that is part of the current release branch, though in case there are known issues acknowledged by the distribution’s maintainer, the Hardened Image may feature a previous Kernel release to ensure stability of the image.

Upgrading to or adding a different Kernel version would fall outside of the support scope for the CIS Hardened Image, as the added Kernel version is not a standard part of the image, and our team cannot support issues arising from system modifications or third party application deployments.
