What aspects of a CIS Hardened Image can the CIS Product Support team assist with troubleshooting?

Solution

CIS Product Support can assist with the following troubleshooting scenarios:

CIS Product Support cannot provide assistance for the following usage cases:

  • Integration of the CIS Hardened Image into automated processes & pipeline workflows (Terraform, Ansible, sysprep): Issues with automated builds using CIS Hardened Images

  • Support for third-party software, applications and/or tools that are not already part of the Hardened Image upon initialization. These inquiries should generally be directed to the application vendor or resolved through available public documentation and community discussion boards.

    Examples of the above include but are not limited to:

    • Applications such as QuickBooks, added server roles & services such as Microsoft IIS or nginx

    • Antimalware / IDS / IPS systems & agents such as CrowdStrike or Symantec

    • Using the CIS Hardened Image as part of a build pipeline or automation workflow

  • Replacing the preconfigured nftables firewall on Linux Hardened Images with iptables or another host-based firewall solution (see CIS Linux Hardened Images - installing Docker & using nftables)

  • Manually modifying the kernel version to one not included in the Hardened Image
    (see CIS Hardened Image Kernel Support)

  • Issues arising from limited service availability or image-restricted Cloud Service Provider functionality (Amazon AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud)
