Problem

I am having trouble with my Linux assessment/CIS-CAT is hanging during the scan/I am getting many unknown results on my Linux assessment.

Solution

The issue is most likely cause by using an outdated version of CIS-CAT v4 and also incorrect permissions.

  1. Download the latest version of Assessor and re-run the scan with INFO level logging

  2. Change the temp path being used. By default CIS-CAT will use /var/tmp. Change the temp path to be /home/<user>. The method for doing this will be different depending on how you are using CIS-CAT.

For a local scan using the GUI -

For a remote scan using the GUI -

If using a Sessions.Properties file

If using a Sessions file, set the tmp path in the sessions.properties file -

#session.2.type=ssh #session.2.host=1.1.1.1 #session.2.user=cisAdmin ##session.2.cred=Supersecretpassword123 #session.2.port=22 #session.2.tmp=/home/cisAdmin

If changing the temp path does not solve the issue, please follow the steps in this guide to share a fresh copy of the assessor-cli.log
